I want suggestions!
Published on March 5, 2009 By GunslingerBara In Demigod

Hello everyone,

As Stardock's web developer, I was tasked with creating a statistics website for Demigod using the ungodly amount of data we (will) have available to us.  That website is now located at http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com.  A bunch of you already saw the "beta" version a few weeks back.  While this site is still a beta, I am happy enough with it to remove the beta message that was at the top of the page in the previous version.

Today I pushed an update that added a bunch of new statistics, pages, and a slight redesign. Starting today I will be keeping a log of changes to the site in this post.  I will also be checking for any suggestions, ideas, or feedback you guys may have on the site, so feel free to reply with any ideas.

Please keep in mind that the site is still a work in progress.  Some numbers are still off, the design will likely be changed some more, and we will be adding more statistics in the future.  It will likely be updated a few more times before Demigod's release.

Change Log:

- Fixed how player stats are saved to the database, so custom games now count for Ladder Rankings/Experience (not all custom games though, just ranked custom games).

Overall, yes.

Ladder, not much so...

on Jun 05, 2009

Hi Bara,

I have a lot of games marked as Won or Lost that should of been NA. This is assuming all custom games are supposed to be marked NA. I had 31 custom games weekend before last, only 1 disconnect from one of my friends, game locked up on him ( he had to hard boot), we usually set up a 3-way on our phones during game so we can all talk. All the other games were perfect no disconnects and nothing strange happening. Custom games stats only show 20 games played, should be 31. Something very strange is happening with the recording of the games on your website, since there was only 1 game with any disconnects and we were only playing against AI, both of my other friends are learning the game still.

Here is my game list:

Not that this is the best place for it, but...

Any chance we can change the timer back to 30 secs???

Now with the option of endgame, people typically use this to quit a game in progress (instead of the exit to windows).  I haven't seen a single disconnect timer.  However the cable in my area has an issue where at unknown random intervals, I will disconnect for approximately 21 secs.  It happens once every 10 games, sometimes 3 games in a row and then never for 20 odd games, but before I would be fine.  Now with the timer at 8 secs I am screwed.

On a more pertinent point, some of my disconnects our counted as wins because I was the host and I played the match to completion.  See games at 6:24 and 5:52 today for examples.

Hey Bara,

Found something very interesting today.  I played a game at 11:30 in the pantheon and after scoring several kills the host dropped, then so did my ally.  This left the game with just aui.  This was about 4 minutes in.  I finished the game in another 12 minutes and low and behold no win showed up on the pantheon games list.

This in concert with the above means that anyone can have a 100% wn percent simply by hosting and then disconnecting for 10 secs and the reconnecting.  Everyone else in game will get the loss and a disconnect while that person as the host gets no disconnect and gets the win.  Clearly we need another system other than just the host reporting the win/loss, score, and d/c.

I found a weird anomaly in the database -- unfortunately I didn't play the game in question so I can't tell you what happened.

  • How can all the players in a game lose?
  • How can a losing player get 165 favor points?

Known Issues:
- Certain games are not being recorded, either due to player disconnect or a bug related to AI players.

I mentioned this before, but got lost in the shuffle (I think).  Some matches are missing from the record entirely, and not for either of the reasons you list above.

I have limited play time, so this is a small sample.  However, below are the matches and results of those matches I have played in since patch 1.01.  The ratio of missing matches feel consistent with my experience over the ~3 weeks I've been playing the game.  Please note that while I should be a modest 4-2, the pantheon has me at a (more) modest 2-2 since the release of 1.01.

6/2  11:20 pm - 12:00 am  2v2  skirmish, flag control leviathan
no disconnects.  Won.  Not recorded.

6/3 10:50 pm  2v2 pantheon flag control zikurat
no disconnects.  Lost.  Recorded.

6/3 11:50 pm 2v2 pantheon fortress cataract
no disconnects.  Won.  Not recorded.

6/6 12:30 am 2v1 pantheon flag control crucible
1 opponent quit.  Won.  Recorded.

6/6 1:00 am 2v2 pantheon fortress cataract
2 opponents quit.  Won.  Recorded.

6/6 1:30 pm 2v2 pantheon fortress leviathan
no disconnects.  Lost.  Recorded.

A few questions -

1) Does the three minute free period in which if you leave you can not get a loss apply to Pantheon games?  I had thought based on Froboy's journal entry that it was universal... if you leave before three minutes no harm no foul.

2) Here is my list of Panth games:

http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com/games/player/31151/

I had a game today June 7th with DomJon (forces of light - Rook player) which was not recorded.  Not recorded on Domjon's list either.  Dominate on Zikurat.  Any explanation?  Unfortunately I can't give you info on disconnects or rage quits...it was a normal game to me I don't recall anything out of the ordinary.  Started with all humans (2v2) and I am pretty sure it ended that way.

Another game today on Crucible 2v2 with a human player on my team - and two forces of darnkess players (one of them ANARHIST55) who both entered the game as AI.  This game was not recorded at all either.  I checked ANARHIST55's game list as well - it does not show up.  I can't recall my partner's nick or I would check his list...but any explanation here?  Towards the end my partner WAS dropped, or was at least replaced by an AI, no disconnect screen came up, I did not have to wait the thirty seconds.  Any thoughts on this one?

Most importantly to me  is the issue of the loss recorded at 10:58pm.  This was a game where everyone connected very quickly, and by the time the game loaded everyone had dropped.  I was the only human in the game, everyone else showed 0 ping.  I quit instantly (not being masochist by nature  ) but as you see..it was recorded as a loss.  Tunk30 got the win on forces of light and received the vast majority of favor points -- http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com/game/583321/player/31151/ --  From my games list - the timing with that loss seems very off.  The win before that at 10:44, then a loss 14 mintues later, then a win 4 minutes later?  Can this be fixed / explained?

EDIT: Another win this morning logged as a loss while my partner (syzlen) received the win.  Syzlen dropped in the middle of the game and it was a 2v2 then with one AI on each team. Also - how did Syz end up with 220 favor points?

Thanks in advance for your help.

It seems at least the custom game statistic does not work correctly. it shows me for the 6th juni only 3 games played and for the 7th only 1. this wrong. on the 6th i played at least 6 games and on 7th at least 4 games.

i thought i've observed that earlier but didn't bother to check it. i'm not sure if this happens every time but at least for the last two days it is definitly wrong!

edit: i see there are manymore  games missing. especially games i won. and the demigod statistic is absurd. it says i played only torchbearer and in only one game, that i lost. in fact it seems that all of the stats (maybe not the fevorpoints) are far from being correct. i really wonder how somebody could implement this so damn wrong -.-

on Jun 08, 2009

I just checked the stats for my games. I went 4-1 over the weekend, but it shows up 2-0 and 1 game not counting. Kind of odd, unless the last game I played ended after midnight last night. I guess I will need to check tomorrow.

on Jun 09, 2009

and now for the 8th juni there are 2 of 3 games missing. i wonder if there are any recorded stats that are correct. it seems they are all messed up.

Is there an explanation anywhere of how the ranking system actually works?

I can see it is an ELO derivative, but I cannot figure out how it is actually working out the ranking. Normally ELO will compare your rating to your opponents then give you plus or minus depending on how far apart your rating is (based on the K modifier).

In a game where you are facing multiple opponents, how is your rating compared? Does it add up all ratings on one side and take an average? Are you compared against the lowest rating?

Is there an explanation somewhere?

Bara,

Have some other games for you that shouldn't be counted:

Jun 9, 2009 5:15 PM

Was a 2v1 game the I and the opposing (solo team member) quit within 30 seconds.

Jun 9, 2009 5:25 PM

Was a 2v2 where I was on a team with an ai and promptly quit within 30secs.

on Jun 09, 2009

I mentioned this before, but got lost in the shuffle (I think). Some matches are missing from the record entirely, and not for either of the reasons you list above.

I also mentioned this 2 times in the first couple of weeks of game being released. I never got a response.

on Jun 10, 2009

Here's a thought I've had a few times.  It would be nice if we could search the database on more than one player: that is find all the games that included both Bob and Joe.  e.g., sometimes I see a user name on the forums that sounds vaguely familiar, and I'm curious if I've played a game with them ... but it's not really practical to find that out at the moment.

on Jun 13, 2009

Well, i have another game that just go missing in pantheon

Was played 13 June, and this is it http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com/game/612796/player/42839/

This player (Sentinel_GC was in my team (sedna), along with an erebus, a regulus and a Torchbearer(me)

The enemy team was a Rook (akonovski), a UB (karrir), a sedna and a QoT (Torstill and manlyman500 were the nicks of those who were using sedna and QoT, but i don't remember who was using each demigod, sorry). I can remeber their name 'cause they were a premade when i see their previus game in pantheon.

The game were without problems, and only the enemy UB disconnected when we were attacking their base, the other 3 enemy players stayed. As far i could check, the enemy team didn't get a loss, and from our team Sentinel_GC got a win vs nobody (see previus link) and i didn't get anything.

P.S.: If you are looking for more error, could you see this??? :http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com/game/603903/player/56148/

Me and Jakld got a loss from a game that we didn't play (see the name of the game: 3vs3 and there are 8 ppl, 3 wiiners and 5 losers xDDD)

Thanks for all the hard job, i expect that this issue don't last much longer ^^
