A log of my posts across the forums.

Hey everyone!

We are now ready to have everyone use the new Stardock Central! Please note that this software is currently in Beta and may contain bugs or performance issues.

What does the new Stardock Central do? It lets you download and install any Stardock software you've purchased. It notifies you of updates to the software you have it installed. It also downloads the installers to your computer so that you will always have a backup of our software in the future.

You can download it by going to this page and clicking on Download: https://www.stardock.com/stardockcentral/

Note that the new Stardock Central can update itself. This means that when I push a new version of Stardock Central live, it will automatically update itself the next time it runs. There's no need to come back here to re-download future updates!

Please post any issues you have in the Stardock Central Support forum. I'll be checking it daily for any issues.

A custom install option would've been NICE! What is it with everything having to be installed to the C drive? I'd prefer to have the option to install to my SSD or one of the platter drives.
Microsoft has requierments that apps need to follow to be certified.  If you move your user or program directories to a different drive through Windows you can.

Well that's not good since I use the 1.9 version of ObjectDock. And I think I have other apps like RightClick...IconX...to name a few...installed that are no longer offered...so those won't be in there as well? And I'm guessing all backups made through impulse will no longer be use
Every thing you describe will be available from the web.  Other apps may show up at some later time.

Impulse backups are dead to me.  You should let them go too.

Okay, finished the uninstall and reinstall process just a little while ago and everything seems to be working fine.  As Zubaz points out the legacy software that you had shows up on the store site under you account.

Correct.

Can this be done? If so, I'd be interested in knowing that trick.

Quoting Zubaz, reply 16If you move your user or program directories to a different drive through Windows you can.Can this be done? If so, I'd be interested in knowing that trick.

me too. i can move my user files rather easily. it seems to me moving the default install directories would require a reg hack which is something i'm not willing to do at the moment. i remember trying to move these directories back in the XP days and all it did was mess up the Windows installation so badly i had to format and reinstall. to be honest, i do not want to store my WB, IP, and CFX themes on my SDD. i want them on a platter drive.

Same here, but my OS is on my SSD and SD puts all the files in Public Documents. So I use up 11 GB of space storing blinds. DeskScapes lets me store dreams on a second drive, why not blinds, cursors, DX themes, and docks? Icon packages too. It would save me a lot of SSD space.

I used TweakVista/7.

I resolved the problem I was having. After reading all forum posts I uninstalled all the apps I had in the Impulse/Gamestop app. After that SDC now works with no errors.

zubaz, i must give you credit when it's due. you showed me something about Tweak 7 i hadn't noticed before. Thanks. although i tried to move certain folders with Tweak 7, it failed to work. i'm getting numerous errors such as "COMMAND failed".

Did it work with any or some?  Which ones did it fail on ans which ones did it succeed?

on Mar 13, 2012

oh yeah, it worked. too well! when it said it would overwrite files, i assumed it meant any files with the same file names. nope! it wiped everything in the folder! all of my family pics, important docs, and everything else! grrrrrrrrrr. doing a system restore didn't bring any of those items back, either. i'm not a happy camper at the moment. right now, i'm slapping any old drives i have in the docking station trying to find one that may have copies of these items.

I hope you find archives.

i'm sad to say i don't. i'm pretty distraught right now. quite a few of those pics can't be replaced. i guess it's my fault but why would tweak 7 feel the need to overwrite what is already in a folder? what advantage is there to doing that?

btw, unless i'm missing something,  tweak 7 doesn't move the public folders which are where wb and ip store their skins.

I'm so sorry Pas.  Tweak should have put up at least one warning.  You don't have any type of backup for you personal files?

Odd.  I thought it did.

Itcan be done through a Directory Junction which can redirect to a new location of Public folder (which is what Tweak7 did).

First create a new folder on the new drive (E:\ in this example) and  call it Public.

Go to Cmd prompt by running as Administrator.

Copy everything from existing public folder to the new folder created by using the command
robocopy /MIR %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Users\Public   E:\Public     (or whatever name you used for public folder on E:)

You need robocopy as it takes care of hidden files, etc, especially if you have Recorded TV folder within public folder.

Once the copy is transferred, you need to delete the existing public folder and create a junction in its place. For this, boot into Safe Mode as an administrator and delete the public contents and folder, and again by starting the Cmd prompt as an administrator. To remove the Public folder:

rmdir /s /q %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Users\Public

Having created the new location folder, and deleting the existing public folder, now is time to create a Directory Junction for public folder with the following command:

mklink /J  %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Users\Public   E:\Public                         (or whatever name you named the opublic folder on E:\)

for example:  mklink /J  C:\Users\Public  E:\Public

Now, whatever is meant for the original Public folder gets directed to the new location.

zubaz, it did give a warning. it said files int he folder wold be overwritten. i assumed it meant files with the same names would be overwritten not EVERY file.

i'm fairly certain i've lost all my pics and docs.

i will try your suggestion regarding public folders when i get over the anger i'm experiencing now.

i have to admit i'm pretty aggravated over the skins being stored on the SSD by deafult. i know for a fact i could put wb skins on a secondary drive back in the xp days. i have a 240 gb SSD but i don't want to fill it up with frivolous stuff. a person needs to keep 1/2 the SSD's capacity open before the performance of the SSD starts to degrade. i can put quite a bit on there but the less i HAVE to put on there, the better.
