I want suggestions!
Published on March 5, 2009 By GunslingerBara In Demigod

Hello everyone,

As Stardock's web developer, I was tasked with creating a statistics website for Demigod using the ungodly amount of data we (will) have available to us.  That website is now located at http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com.  A bunch of you already saw the "beta" version a few weeks back.  While this site is still a beta, I am happy enough with it to remove the beta message that was at the top of the page in the previous version.

Today I pushed an update that added a bunch of new statistics, pages, and a slight redesign. Starting today I will be keeping a log of changes to the site in this post.  I will also be checking for any suggestions, ideas, or feedback you guys may have on the site, so feel free to reply with any ideas.

Please keep in mind that the site is still a work in progress.  Some numbers are still off, the design will likely be changed some more, and we will be adding more statistics in the future.  It will likely be updated a few more times before Demigod's release.

Change Log:
9/21/2009
- Fixed how player stats are saved to the database, so custom games now count for Ladder Rankings/Experience (not all custom games though, just ranked custom games).
- Added Notes tab to player pages. This will allow you to view and manage private notes for other players, which will eventually appear within Demigod itself. Only you can view notes you've written, and you cannot view other's notes or notes written about you.
- The player stats on the left side of the primary player page now includes a small description for each stat.
- Fixed minor bugs with graphs.

Once again, the Pantheon statistics website is located at http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com.  I look forward to your feedback!

Hi Bara

[Suggestion]  Exp display on Games Played List

What do you think?

We've thought about it, but we aren't currently keeping track of experience changes per game.  The major problem is that we have different experience values for each game type (eg, tournaments vs. skirmish vs. custom games), so we'd have to store multiple values to make it accurate, and we just aren't doing that.  Maybe in a future version of Demigod we'll implement this.

Is there anyway we can get this thread back to sticky, because it has a lot of good information and a good link for the patheon stats page. And why was it unstickied to begin with. It has been stickied since before release of the game.

I've re-stuck it for now, but sometimes some Stardockians go through the stickies once in a while and unstick posts that aren't needed anymore.  I am not working on the Demigod site anymore for the time being, and GPG along with some Stardock employees have resolved most of the stat issues.  The remaining ones they are working on now.  These issues generally don't have to do much with me or the website, and more to do with the backend systems in place.  So there won't be very many major updates to the site itself in the near future.

I did push an update a few weeks back to add some features such as which Epoch a game falls under, who was counted for a specific game and who wasn't (a small star will be next to the win/loss column if the player was not counted), and a few bug fixes.  Nothing major.

[Suggestion]  Add Stats items

Hi Bara

I hope to add Stats Item in Epcoh 3 or later.

-Total
Kill,Death,Assist,Flag,Structure,Grunt and Citadel Upgrade

-Average(Per Game)
Kill,Death,Assist,Flag,Structure,Grunt,Citadel Upgrade and Disconnect Rate

And also should be see these stats in lobby , or modders should be able to use them

What do you think?

I have been reviewing the stats...mainly around myself..and for the life of me, I cannot see how the Ladder ranking system works...I see players with more favor, more experience, more playtime...but ranked incredibly low...any way of having a place where the Stats and rankings are clearly explained...like a link on the tournament page with a Statistics Explained link?

Thanks!

I haven't waded through all the replies to see if this was already discussed, but being strictly a PUG player results in my win/loss ratio being mediocre at best.  In fact, it's gotten me kicked out of some games I've tried to join.  A somewhat more meaningful statistic would be average favor in games won, and average favor in games lost.

Although favor is still largely influenced by team performance, it does provide a bit more insight into your performance relative to other players on both the winning and losing side of a game (e.g., my team lost but I acheived more favor than members of the winning team), and so it is a bit more useful than just the win/loss ratio.

Basically, I'm looking for a more accurate way to gauge player skill beyond wins/losses because those are too inaccurate in terms of the individual player, and even more so for PUG vs. team players.

EDIT: Hmmm, maybe this is what experience is supposed to reflect, I'll have to research further.

Hey Bara any update on statistics too see what favor items are used?

on Sep 04, 2009

We may not add favor items until a future revision of the site, which I'm not sure when will come.

Also, we are not yet releasing how experience and ranking are calculated.  Perhaps in the future we will provide that information, but for the time being it will stay a mystery

Can you just give us some idea how often BotF is used?  You take away horn of battle and ring of divine might but leave the worse favor item in game?

That would be something Frogboy would have to share.

I have a suggestion. After reviewing the "TOP PLAYERS" I really noticed a trend. Most of the top players are staying in a hosted custom game with settings that are allowing the game to be ranked. Now, as this game keeps persistent data which adds to the motivation to play the game online and adds to the sense of player accomplishment, the ranking system that you have provided is a great tool for social circles and "bragging rights". I think that if the "Top players" were to put thier stats on the line and be at the mercy of the Pantheon system of choosing your teammates, regardless of thier experience, we would probably see a much different ranking.

I would like to see the real top player...one who consistently wins skirmishes + Pantheon + custom. And have a separate "Top Players" for each category. For example: Skirmish Top Players, Pantheon Top Players, Custom Game Top Players, and the OVERALL Top Players. take player A for example. Player A wins 10 Lost 0 skirmishes, wins 10 lost 0 Pantheon, wins 10 lost 0 Custom. Player B wins 150 lost 0 Custom, wins 5 lost 0 skirmishes, and never played Pantheon. To me, Player A is a more skilled player. the top players list (Overall) should reflect this.  Custom games allow for individuals to more affect thier gamming destiny.

I think that this would really allow for a more dynamic statistics system and allow players to work in the types of games they are comfortable with. You do not always get to pick your teammates in life, that is why those that really succeded in those environments feel all the more joy. For those that just want to host a game with a couple of friends and pad stats by beating up on noobies...not a problem...there would be a separate category for such. This would allow for a great lead in for Clan games.

I know this may suggest a change in front end structure as I have no idea the mechanism you use in the back end; though I do feel assured that almost to a player, most will agree with me.

Thanks for the great work you have done so far.

P.S. Maybe have an archive site for old achievements and after a quarter of Play....reset everyones current statistics!

Says you. I know many folks who use it..more than 15 at least.

I am saying BoF is worse item cause of HP stacking it is worse then Horn or Ring they both scale as game goes on.  Bof is huge early game and then fades it is imbalanced cause most games don't make it to level 10. That is why it should be removed or benefits lowered or changed to like 10% of total health. cause armour also effects it and so do monks.

incorrect posting

I pushed an update earlier this morning:

9/21/2009
- Fixed how player stats are saved to the database, so custom games now count for Ladder Rankings/Experience (not all custom games though, just ranked custom games, see below).
- Fixed other minor bugs.

Custom games now count for Ladder Rankings/Experience, but not all custom games.  If a custom game lasts less than 5 minutes or does not have a human player for each team, it will not be ranked.  Note that if you want your stats to update, you will have to play a few games in various game types and maps to get the updated numbers.  Unfortunately, our job only runs at the end of a game and only for that specific game type (eg, custom game or skirmish) and map.

The Notes will appear in Demigod (likely in the "who's connected/connecting" overlay in the lobby) when the next major update releases, among other things.  However, you will not be able to manage notes in-game, only through the website.

We already rank people seperately for skirmish and custom games.  When you click on Top Players, there are 3 tabs above the rankings: Ladder, Custom Game, and Skirmish.  Ladder is only ranked games across all 3 game types (tournaments, skirmish, and custom games), whereas Custom Game and Skirmish are only ranked games in the respective game type.

I saw the update today and am very pleased!  Looks good.

I'm not sure if its a bug, but through this link http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com/demigods/player/28414/ it looks like alot of my individual dg stats have been updated, but my rook stat is definitely wrong.  I show up with 4 wins, 1 loss and appear to be the number 4 rook.

Thanks for all the hard work!
