I want suggestions!
Published on March 5, 2009 By GunslingerBara In Demigod

Hello everyone,

As Stardock's web developer, I was tasked with creating a statistics website for Demigod using the ungodly amount of data we (will) have available to us.  That website is now located at http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com.  A bunch of you already saw the "beta" version a few weeks back.  While this site is still a beta, I am happy enough with it to remove the beta message that was at the top of the page in the previous version.

Today I pushed an update that added a bunch of new statistics, pages, and a slight redesign. Starting today I will be keeping a log of changes to the site in this post.  I will also be checking for any suggestions, ideas, or feedback you guys may have on the site, so feel free to reply with any ideas.

Please keep in mind that the site is still a work in progress.  Some numbers are still off, the design will likely be changed some more, and we will be adding more statistics in the future.  It will likely be updated a few more times before Demigod's release.

Change Log:

- Fixed how player stats are saved to the database, so custom games now count for Ladder Rankings/Experience (not all custom games though, just ranked custom games).

I strongly disagree that Customs should not be ranked. Its the most easily played atm. Skirmish is only 3v3 and it includes a.i. Anything that includes bashable, easy free kils a.i should not count as ranked.

For Custom, I think there should be an option to make the game ranked or not - I dont know how easy that is to implement though. Ranked games would have locked default settings with only game modes that are changeable - and no a.i is allowed.

The reason I say this is because later on there will be clear competitive scene for the top players, and they will want to have good games together and NOT with random peopel in skirmish mode. If these dont count for anything except for "fun" or maybe bragging rights, it will really lose the competitive feel of the hardcore players vs'ing each other.

Unless Skirmish changes greatly (no a.i and constant crucible map) then i dont see why this should be ranked and Customs shouldn't. I want my games to be based on skill, not luck. If I chose Regulus as my hero in Skirmish and my other to a.i's are a Regulus and a Torchbearer i've pretty much already lost and put at a big disadvanage if my enemy has gone for example Regulus, The Rook and Erebus.

Custom should not be ranker because it's too easy to exploit it for easy win. On Coh opposing force you have a map where it's really easy for allied to win (brige map were bristish can block axe in there base). There is lot of people/team waiting some noobs join the game on this map for some easy win and improve their stats.

What demigod really need is a team option for pantheon skirmich like all actual rts. After that, perhaps working on some online tournalent mode?

As of early Friday I am not able to click on my name in the rankings, also I am unable to click on others names either to bring up the details. I have not changed anything on my end. I tried again just a few minutes ago. So I am going on 18 hrs or so not able to do this where it worked prefectly fine before early friday. Is this a known issue or is it just me and what can I do to help trouble shoot/fix problem?

Thanx in advance.

I understand what you are saying, Dalz, and I agree with you within the context of your statements.  The problem is that custom games are just too exploitable for favor and rankings.  Right now I could spend all day playing carefully structured custom games to jump to the top of the ranking ladder.  It makes the ladder pointless.  For casual players like myself, I want my ranking to mean something.  I want a way to judge my improvement as a player.  Allowing custom games to muddy the waters takes away a lot of the fun.

Once these initial connectivty problems are smoothed out I hope they focus some time on giving players a better structure for competitive play.  Skirmish and Pantheon address the needs of us casuals.  Right now Demigod does nothing to address the needs of the more hardcore players.  Players who want to truly excel at the game as a team-centric competition.

I noticed something strange: I changed my Impulse nickname, and I played for hours with this new, but it seems that it's not listed in the Pantheon. Worse, my "old" names counters does not change

I have played at lest 10 pantheon games today not 1 has shown up in statistics

on Apr 18, 2009

Yeah, this is the second night in a row that status haven't been updated.  I think its not really a priority right now.  Too bad; I was soemthing like 10 and 2 yesterday.  Buddha says, don't get attched to material things (or stats)

on Apr 19, 2009

Here's a nifty suggestion for things you can do with statistics when you get around to it. You can create overall stats of all the skill-based data represented in achievements. Such as how many enemies Unclean Beast kills with Post Mortem, or how many times Regulus goes into Angelic Fury. It's nothing pertinent, but it's interesting stuff. Other things like overall Citadel Upgrades and "favorites" (favorite Demigod, favorite item, favorite Favor item, etc.) could be interesting tidbits of information that, while not necessarily hardcore data, are fun to know.

There might also be more practical stats such as EXP Gained / minute and Kill / Death ratios.

I noticed that my statistics aren't being saved either (or at least, aren't showing up on the site).  I'll look into them tomorrow and see what's going on.

I still believe that custom games should not count.  If good players wish to play against each other, let them do so.  I don't see how their rank jumping up slightly over a single game would make anything feel more or less competitive.  I believe the real problem you guys are having is that the skirmish and Pantheon systems are not matching players together properly, and that AI play too significant of a role.  Well, we'll see what we can do on those ends.  Keep the complains coming, I'm always listening

As for maps, I already wrote the code for a weighted percentage for each map, so that certain maps appear more often and others less often (Crucible was set to the lowest of the bunch, with Mandala set as the highest).

Yeah my stats aren't even being recorded, bought game 3 days ago, played about 30 games and not a single one appears (all of these pantheon games)

on Apr 20, 2009

Should this be working now? I don't see myself listed at all and I've probably played near 20 games online now...
