A log of my posts across the forums.

Hey everyone!

I just pushed an update to the forums.  This update is a big one, made up of a lot of small changes and tweaks.  The most significant change is that we now show which site posts, PM's, and karma are coming from.  This is to help avoid confusion and to spread the word of the other forums and sites.  Please take a look at the change log below for more info:

Change Log:

  1. In posts, we now show which site the posts and each reply came from.
  2. In each user's karma page there is now an icon to show which site the karma came from.
  3. In your Private Messages page, we show which site the PM was sent from.
  4. In the My Replies page (or any user's replies page, see #6 below), you can change a dropdown to show the replies from all sites.
  5. In a user's a profile, the Karma, Posts, and Replies numbers can be clicked for more information.
  6. You can now view the replies for all users by clicking on the Replies # in a user's profile.
  7. The "Reason for Editing" box for editing posts has been removed.
  8. iPad/iPhone/iPods can now send PM's.
  9. In posts, we now hide the buttons (Quote, Edit, etc.) for each reply until you mouseover the reply.  This is to help keep the forums cleaner and to reduce confusion as to which set of buttons belongs to which reply.  The original posts' buttons appear by default.
  10. The "Last Reply Info" column in forums, my posts, my replies, and recent posts has been updated visually.
  11. In each forum, you can now see the number of views each post has.
  12. My Posts page (and any user's posts page) is now paginated, so you can more than 1 page of posts.
  13. Lots of changes to the styles and icons to make them more consistent.
  14. Lots of bug fixes.
  15. Better error messages.

Please let me know if you find any issues with the above or in general.

I am having same problem constantly have to log in, only a portion of home page shows up. Sometimes I time out trying to open a page.

Why fix something like you did when nothing was broken

I am out of here until you can fix your problems/screwups

Uploads still not working. Anyone? Everytime I post this and hit submit I am logged out again.

But I just noticed on your post that there is a "back" button to the original post when you quote an entire post!!!! Another very nice feature!

It is my experience that said back button takes you to the top of the page, not to the reply you quoted.

Experience is overrated. It goes the the reply # shown to the left of the small arrow for me.

(The one within the quote, RND, not the black one at the far right.)

Great work guys!!!

Oops, spoke too soon!

Yeah this is just ridiculous now. Why do we need all these options? Type your post...done...reply to a post...done...and who decided we needed or wanted these things? This site is in a constant state of destruction/construction. Just make the damn thing work already...I mean it's been what now...a year in the making? Or was it going to be a year in the making?

and I have ANOTHER issue from the update.

before the latest forum changes, I could tell my firefox to reload ALL the tabs and just switch to the tab, read the posts & replies, the move to the next tab,

BUT

after these changes I now do a refresh all tabs, then I have to go to EACH tab, LOG in, THEN take the tab BACK to the forum area it was in, then read the threads, go to the next tab log in then go to the area that tab was in read the posts replies & rinse & repeat.

barra, please do not do any more change plans on either mondays or fridays again, and it might be a good idea for you to atleast ask some of the longer term forum users their opinions regarding the changes, and apparently you even managed to upset frogboy with this last lot of changes

Why do we need all these options?

I totally agree, a forum should be completely simple, and I would highly recommend making the forums totally separate to each site.  I for one do not care what happens on the Elemental or JoeUser Forums, I came here to read the WinCustomize Forums only.

I had to try a few times when I was logging in, I guess I was trying to login at the same time the changes were going live.  Being in an Australian timezone and all.   Btw: can you put the Western Australian timezone (no daylight saving at all for the next long while) in the selectable timezones in My Account?  Currently I can only use the +8 GMT one for Beijing, Chongjin, SAR Hongkong and Urumqi (last name with special accented characters).

Do any of those cities have Daylight Savings?

Best regards,
Steven.

I was just in the forums under General discussions writing an article I though would be interesting to share. Thirty minutes it took me and when I clicked submit an error message came up saying FireFox has detected that the server is redirecting the post in a way that will never complete. Needless to say I lost the whole damn thing and I am not submitting any more articles until this issue is resolved. That and I had to log in afterwards when I was already logged in. I'm automatically logged in when I start and when i visit the forums for the first time. Leave to go to the home page, log in. Return to the forums, log in again. It's enough to make my brain frazzle.

Sorry guys, I've been sick yesterday and today so I have not been able to work on the forums to resolve your issues.  I'll be working from home today to try and get them resolved.

Our server admin made a change to our load balancer that may resolve the random logout issue.  If you are still having the problem, please clear any cookies related to stardock or the site you are currently visiting (if possible, clear all cookies to start fresh).  If it still happens to you again after this, let me know, and try to be civilized, please

I'll look into why uploading avatars is broken again.

As for the buttons only appearing on mouseover, I figure that since you would have to mouseover the reply anyways to click on the buttons, it wouldn't really matter.  Let me know your thoughts on this and I'll decide whether to show them by default like they used to be.

And again, please be civilized.  I understand this is very frustrating, but I'll try my best to resolve everyone's problems as quickly as possible.

First, sorry to hear you aren't feeling well, get well soon.

Let me know your thoughts on this

I like the new change but it does interfere with scrolling the forum pages (There is a slight pause or hang as each reply shows the buttons.) unless you keep your mouse out of the reply areas when doing so or use the scrollbar.  It gives the page a "jerky" look and feel to it. I'd like it better if this was smoothed out.

May I ask what browser you are using and just how modern your computer is?  This is a very simple bit of javascript that should not be causing jerkiness in the slightest... unless you have an older computer or using an outdated browser.
